Is the 2015 RAM 1500 a good car?

With a user rating of 3.9/5 and an expert rating of 7.7/10, the 2015 RAM 1500 lands in appealing territory if you want a full-size pickup that leans more toward comfort than hard-edged utility. The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel, Form and function, Cost effectiveness, and Safety.

Owners repeatedly praise its powerful performance, luxury features, comfort, and enjoyable driving experience. That lines up well with the overview’s focus on a comfortable interior, a strong chassis, and a truck that can work as both a daily driver and a more upscale cruiser.

The market also looks reasonably supportive, with 23.7% of listings marked as good or great deals.

Is the 2015 RAM 1500 reliable?

The 2015 RAM 1500 is presented as a truck that has aged well, with a competent and smooth diesel powertrain and a cabin that still feels appealing for long-term use. Owners also describe it as reliable, dependable, and trouble-free in broad terms, especially when talking about comfort and everyday satisfaction.

The expert notes reinforce that impression by describing the V6 and eight-speed automatic as entirely unnoticeable, which is usually a good sign for smooth, low-drama operation. The diesel is also framed as a strong option if you can accept its higher purchase price.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that some owners have reported engine issues, rust, and occasional feature malfunctions, so a careful inspection matters.

What should I look for when buying a used 2015 RAM 1500?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup ranges from work-truck simple to luxury-oriented, with the Tradesman at the entry end and the Laramie, Laramie Longhorn, and Laramie Limited aimed at buyers who want a more upscale truck. The base trims are the ones most likely to feel sparse, while higher trims add more comfort and convenience equipment.
• Powertrain: You can find the 3.6-litre Pentastar V6, the 5.7-litre Hemi V8, and the 3.0-litre EcoDiesel. The V6 is described as capable and the diesel as smooth and efficient, while the V8 brings stronger towing ability.
• Safety package: The truck includes a standard suite of passive safety features, and trailer sway control is managed by standard electronic stability control. Blind-spot monitoring is optional, and front and rear parking sensors are optional on most models but standard on Laramie editions.
• Infotainment: An optional 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreen is available in most trims and standard above the Outdoorsman. Less expensive trims can have more basic systems, so check carefully if you want the larger screen and more modern-feeling setup.
• Fuel efficiency: The 3.6-litre V6 uses 13.9 L/100 km city and 9.5 highway in rear-wheel drive, or 14.6/10.1 in four-wheel drive. The 5.7-litre Hemi returns 15.7 city and 10.9 highway in rear-wheel drive, or 16.2/11.5 in four-wheel drive. The 3.0-litre EcoDiesel improves to 11.5 city and 8.4 highway in rear-wheel drive, or 12.1/8.8 in four-wheel drive.

Which 2015 RAM 1500 trim should I buy?

The 2015 RAM 1500 is offered in 10 trim levels: Tradesman, ST, SXT, SLT, Big Horn, Outdoorsman, Sport, R/T, Laramie, Laramie Longhorn, and Laramie Limited.

Here's the short version:

• Tradesman: This is the most basic work-focused choice, so it makes sense if you want the lowest-cost path into the truck and do not need much in the way of extras.
• ST: This trim keeps the truck on the simpler side, and it suits you if you want a straightforward RAM 1500 without paying for more comfort or convenience equipment.
• SXT: This is still an entry-level choice, but it gives you another step up in the lineup if you want a little more than the most stripped-down version.
• SLT: This is the popular pick for many buyers and a strong value point if you want a more balanced mix of equipment and price.
• Big Horn: This is the consumer volume model and adds a few more available content upgrades over the SLT, making it the best-value trim for many shoppers.
• Outdoorsman: This trim sits above the mainstream volume choices and is a good fit if you want a more distinctive truck with more equipment.
• Sport: This trim is aimed at buyers who want a more style-forward truck, and it also serves as the base for the R/T option.
• R/T: This is the sportier option in the lineup, with 22-inch alloy wheels and a more performance-oriented appearance.
• Laramie: This is where the truck starts leaning into luxury, with more upscale appeal and standard parking sensors.
• Laramie Longhorn: This is another luxury-oriented choice for buyers who want a more premium-feeling cabin and presentation.
• Laramie Limited: This is the top-end luxury trim and the one to buy if you want the most upscale version of the 2015 RAM 1500.

The safety content also notes that front and rear parking sensors are standard on Laramie editions, while blind-spot monitoring remains optional.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2015 RAM 1500?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have some room to shop carefully rather than rushing into the first decent listing.

• Deal availability: 23.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 439 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.71% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $16,043 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2015 RAM 1500's resale value?

The current average of $16,979 CAD sits slightly below last year's $18,599 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the truck is currently more buyer-friendly than it was a year ago. If you plan to sell later, you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, trim, and how well the truck has been maintained.

The fact that prices have eased also means future sellers may face more competition from similarly equipped trucks. A clean history and desirable equipment will matter more if you want to stand out.

Is the 2015 RAM 1500 safe?

The 2015 RAM 1500 earns four-star ratings in frontal crash and overall safety from NHTSA, and five-star ratings in side impacts.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Ram’s safety package includes a standard suite of passive safety features such as airbags, pretensioning seatbelts, antilock brakes, and brake assist. Trailer sway control is also standard through electronic stability control, and blind-spot monitoring is available as an option.

One caveat is that front and rear parking sensors are not standard on most models, so you may want to prioritise them if you plan to use the truck in tight spaces.

Should I buy a 2015 RAM 1500 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2015 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2015 if:

• 23.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.71% compared with last year.
• The 2015 stands out for its aged-well design, comfortable interior, and strong powertrain choices.

The bottom line: If you want a full-size pickup that blends comfort, style, and strong everyday usability, the 2015 is a solid place to focus. If you are more price-sensitive, you can use the softer market and decent inventory to shop carefully for a well-kept example rather than stretching for a newer truck.
