Why it stands out

The 2015 Chevrolet Traverse stands out as a big, family-focused crossover that prioritises space and everyday usability. It offers a usable third-row seat, plenty of room for a midsize SUV, and a maximum cargo volume of 2,780 litres with all the seats folded, which gives it a minivan-like advantage for hauling people and gear. It is also easy to drive and use, with intuitive technology and a solid set of standard comfort and convenience features.

For this generation, Chevrolet gave the Traverse a more muscular look, squarer wheel arches, and an upright shape, moving it closer to the brand’s truck styling. In Canada, it was offered exclusively with a 3.6-litre V6 that made 310 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque. The standard 7-inch colour touchscreen, optional 8-inch unit, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth, six USB inputs, three-zone automatic climate control, and keyless entry with push-button start all help make it feel well equipped for family duty.

Its appeal is strongest as a practical used SUV with lots of space for the money. The Traverse also has good outward visibility from the driver’s seat and a reputation for being much more reliable than the original version, although it is still only about average compared with some rivals. It is not as plush as some competitors, and it is not especially exciting to drive or look at, but for buyers who want a roomy, straightforward family vehicle, the 2015 Chevrolet Traverse makes a compelling case.
