CarGurus Analysis: 2017 Chevrolet Traverse
Summary
With 11 currently listed for sale and an average price of $10,316 CAD, 36.4% of 2017 Chevrolet Traverse listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2017 Chevrolet Traverse 4.8 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2017 Chevrolet Traverse stands out as a big, family-focused crossover that prioritises space above almost everything else. It offers a usable third row and plenty of room for a midsize SUV, and with all the seats folded it provides 2,780 litres of cargo volume, which is minivan-sized. It also has good outward visibility from the driver’s seat, making its large footprint easier to live with. For buyers who want a roomy three-row vehicle without moving to a body-on-frame SUV, that combination is a major part of its appeal.
This generation also brought a more modern feel than the original Traverse. Chevrolet redesigned it for the 2018 model year, giving it a more muscular look, squarer wheel arches, and an upright shape, while also increasing the wheelbase by 5 centimetres and shaving 50 kilograms off its weight. In Canada, it was offered exclusively with a 3.6-litre V6 producing 310 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque. The Traverse also wins points for easy-to-use technology, including a standard 7-inch colour touchscreen, an optional 8-inch unit, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth, six USB inputs, three-zone automatic climate control, and keyless entry with push-button start.
There are trade-offs, though. The Traverse is not as plush inside as some rivals, and it is not especially exciting to drive or look at. Its reliability record is also a weak point, with the first-generation model carrying a particularly poor reputation, so used buyers need to be selective and inspect carefully before purchase.

Love the style and options and comfort. Don’t like that the sun/moon roof doesn’t have a solid cover to keep the sun out, only a shade.

This is the second Traverse we get. It is very generous in space in the third row and the 7 passenger model is very practical for having the whole family in and out of the car in seconds!

How much does the 2017 Chevrolet Traverse cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $13,686 CAD |
| Year-Round Low | $13,409 CAD |
| Year-Round High | $17,259 CAD |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $17,256 CAD |
| Change vs. Last Year | −20.69% |
Prices have softened 20.69% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.
There are 66 listings available, which gives you a reasonable amount of choice in the used market.
Is the 2017 Chevrolet Traverse a good car?
Yes — 4.8/5 is a strong user rating for the 2017 Chevrolet Traverse. Owners consistently praise its space, comfort, and style, and many also like the powerful performance and available all-wheel drive. That lines up well with its family-first design, roomy three-row layout, and minivan-like cargo capacity when the seats are folded. With 30.3% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a decent chance of finding a competitively priced example.
Is the 2017 Chevrolet Traverse reliable?
Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The feedback points to a vehicle that many owners find dependable in day-to-day use, especially when it comes to comfort, space, and overall ownership experience. At the same time, used buyers should still inspect carefully, because long-term ownership risk can rise if a previous owner skipped maintenance or if the vehicle has been heavily used as a family hauler.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Chevrolet Traverse?
This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile options.
- Deal availability: 30.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 66 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 20.69% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $13,409 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Chevrolet Traverse's resale value?
The current average of $13,686 CAD sits slightly below last year's $17,256 CAD.
That price movement suggests the market has cooled, which can make the Traverse easier to buy now but may also limit upside for a future seller if prices stay soft. If you plan to resell later, the current trend means your return will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and maintenance history. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2017 Chevrolet Traverse or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 30.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 20.69% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: If you want a roomy, family-focused three-row SUV and you value current pricing more than chasing the newest redesign, the 2017 is the sensible path. If you are especially price-sensitive, you may also want to compare nearby years and focus on the best-maintained example rather than the newest badge.
