CarGurus Analysis: 2014 Nissan Altima
Summary
With 83 currently listed for sale and an average price of $8,264 CAD, 21.7% of 2014 Nissan Altima listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2014 Nissan Altima 3.83 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2014 Nissan Altima stands out as a midsize sedan that leans more toward comfort, efficiency, and value than outright excitement. It sits within the fifth generation, which was priced more competitively than the Honda Accord and offered upgrades that improved its value proposition against the Toyota Camry. That generation was also described as characterfully styled, and the Altima’s appeal as a used car comes from the combination of its design, equipment, and everyday practicality.
For this model year, the Altima used a 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine with 179 horsepower and 177 pound-feet of torque, or an optional 3.5-litre V6 with 270 horsepower and 251 pound-feet, both paired with continuously variable automatic transmissions. It was front-wheel drive only. Early in the generation, the cabin featured a conventional centre stack, a 7-inch navigation display was optional, and blind spot warning, moving object detection, and lane departure warnings were optional. The 2014 Altima also benefits from the generation’s quiet-cabin focus and, by this point in the run, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto were standard along with a backup camera.
There are trade-offs, though. The CVT blunts performance, and the model’s repair record is below average. Even so, the 2014 Nissan Altima remains appealing because it offers a lot of car for the money, with good fuel economy, a comfortable interior, and a strong equipment list for shoppers who want a sensible commuter rather than a sporty sedan.

I have owned many cars in the past including last a 2010 Acura TL. After renting a Nissan Altima and driving it round trip over 1200 miles for a trip I was sold and got rid of my Acura and brought the 2014 Nissan Altima S with the Sport Value Package. I absolutely love the gas mileage I get from it I easily go all highway driving over 600 miles before needing gas and the features are great for me not too many not too few features. I think it has a great ride and looks impressive. I get lots of comments on it and so far after purchasing it in mid September I have only had oil changes necessary and anticipate no problems in the future.

This is a very comfortable car—more comfortable and more fun to drive than a Toyota Camry. This is a good car for commuters because of the comfort and the fuel efficiency. I also own a 2010 Nissan Altima, and I have had that one for 5.5 years. It has 130,000 miles on it, and I have never had mechanical problems with it. On paper, the Camry and accord look like more reliable cars than the Altima, but the used Altimas really are much more affordable, more comfortable, and (as I said) I certainly have not had reliability issues with Altima so far.

I love the features of my car, the sound system is my favorite part. I definitely thought it was a great value. I just wish it had heated seats, thats the only thing missing.

Is the 2014 Nissan Altima a good car?
The 2014 Nissan Altima is a balanced used-sedan choice if you want comfort, efficiency, and value more than driving excitement, and its user rating is 3.83/5.
Owners commonly praise its comfort, stylish interior, and fuel efficiency, and the sound system also gets strong marks. That lines up well with the Altima’s role as a practical commuter, especially if you want a midsize sedan with everyday usability and a strong equipment list.
With 25.0% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2014 Nissan Altima reliable?
The 2014 Nissan Altima stands out as a midsize sedan that leans more toward comfort, efficiency, and value than outright excitement.
Owners describe it as a solid commuter, and the feedback points to a car that can feel dependable and trouble-free for everyday use, even though some owners have reported repairs. That mix suggests you should prioritise service history and a careful pre-purchase inspection if you want the best chance at low-stress ownership.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Nissan Altima?
This is a moderate buyer’s market, so you can be selective without expecting every good car to sit around for long.
- Deal availability: 25.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 88 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 15.63% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $8,221 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2014 Nissan Altima's resale value?
The current average of $8,247 CAD sits slightly below last year's $9,775 CAD.
That price movement suggests the 2014 Altima has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can help you as a buyer today. If you plan to sell later, the softer pricing trend means you should expect resale value to remain more modest than stronger-retaining rivals.
For a future seller, that usually means your best outcome will come from buying well, keeping mileage reasonable, and maintaining the car carefully. A clean history and strong condition will matter more than hoping for a quick rebound in market value.
Should I buy a 2014 Nissan Altima or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2014 if:
- 25.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 15.63% compared with last year.
The bottom line: The 2014 Altima makes sense if you want a comfortable, efficient midsize sedan and you find one with a strong service record at a fair price. If you are especially price-sensitive, it is worth comparing nearby model years and choosing the cleanest example with the best maintenance history rather than focusing only on the badge year.
