CarGurus Analysis: 2014 Honda CR-V
Summary
With 28 currently listed for sale and an average price of $12,695 CAD, 17.9% of 2014 Honda CR-V listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2014 Honda CR-V 4.68 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2014 Honda CR-V stands out as a practical, well-rounded compact crossover that leans hard into the qualities many used buyers value most: reliability, comfort, and everyday usefulness. By this generation, the CR-V had already built a reputation for a roomy cabin and cargo area, and the model’s appeal was reinforced by its solid value and long-lived, low-maintenance character. It is also not especially engaging to drive, and its styling is more functional than distinctive, but that straightforward approach is part of its appeal for shoppers who want an easygoing family vehicle rather than something flashy.
For 2014, the CR-V benefits from the fourth generation’s redesign, which brought more interior space for cargo and up to five passengers, along with a 2.4-litre four-cylinder engine rated at 185 horsepower. It also uses a five-speed automatic transmission, and with AWD its estimated highway fuel economy drops below 8 L/100 km. Buyers could choose from LX, EX, EX-L, and Touring trims, and the Touring trim included a navigation system. Another useful change in this generation was the reconfigured flat-folding rear seat, which replaced the fold-and-tumble design used in earlier CR-Vs.
What makes the 2014 CR-V especially appealing is how much it offers without becoming complicated. It is a sensible, durable choice with a strong reliability record, and it remains a good fit for buyers who want a compact SUV that is easy to live with. At the same time, it is fair to note that base models are quite basic, and the CR-V does not deliver the most spirited driving experience in the class.

Honda or Toyota are the best and most reliable cars in the world. I have had many different models and have put 450 to 600 thousand kms on all of them with no major issues.

2014 Honda CR-V Price Trends
CarGurus tracks the prices of millions of used car listings every year. See how the average price of 2014 Honda CR-V prices has changed over time.
See more price trendsHow much does the 2014 Honda CR-V cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $13,754 CAD |
| Year-Round Low | $12,596 CAD |
| Year-Round High | $14,369 CAD |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $14,340 CAD |
| Change vs. Last Year | −4.09% |
Prices have softened 4.09% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.
There are 233 listings available, which suggests you have a decent amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2014 Honda CR-V a good car?
Yes — the 2014 Honda CR-V earns a 4.7/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise its reliability, spacious interior, and good fuel economy, and many also appreciate available features like AWD and backup cameras. For you, that makes it a sensible choice if you want a practical compact crossover for everyday family use rather than something flashy or especially engaging to drive. With 27.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2014 Honda CR-V reliable?
Owners rate it 4.7/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback highlights reliability, and many drivers describe it as a dependable, low-maintenance vehicle they can count on. The same feedback also points to its long-term appeal through its roomy cabin, solid value, and easygoing character. Some owners mention transmission maintenance concerns, so a careful used-car inspection matters if you want to reduce long-term ownership risk.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Honda CR-V?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile options.
- Deal availability: 27.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 233 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 4.09% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $12,596 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2014 Honda CR-V's resale value?
The current average of $13,754 CAD sits slightly below last year's $14,340 CAD.
That softer pricing can help you buy more confidently now, but it also means a future seller may face a more competitive market if prices stay under pressure. The year-round high of $14,369 CAD shows there is still upside when supply tightens or a well-kept example stands out. Because the CR-V has strong owner satisfaction and broad appeal, it should remain relatively easy to move compared with less popular used SUVs.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2014 Honda CR-V or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2014 if:
- 27.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 4.09% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2015 if:
- At $14,644 CAD, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $13,754 CAD average.
- It brings a refreshed version of the CR-V formula with more changes and refinement.
The bottom line: Choose the 2014 if you want the better value and are focused on practicality, reliability, and everyday usefulness. Consider the 2015 if you are willing to pay more for a newer version with added refinement and changes.
