Porsche’s certified pre-owned vehicle program (CPO), also known as Porsche Approved, applies to used cars and SUVs that have passed the company’s rigorous qualification programs.

Unlike other manufacturers that limit CPO programs to vehicles that are from within the last few model years, Porsche will certify certain vehicles that are up to 13 years from the in-service date and with up to 200,000 kilometres on the odometer.

To qualify for the Porsche Approved certified pre-owned program, the Porsche vehicle must:

  • Meet the company’s preparation standards
  • Pass a 111-point inspection checklist
  • Have any needed repairs and maintenance performed by Porsche-approved mechanics
  • Have only genuine Porsche parts installed

Warranty

The Porsche CPO limited warranty covers the vehicle for 2 years (meaning it can cover models up to 15 years old) and an unlimited number of kilometres from either the end of the new-vehicle limited warranty or the date of sale if the new-car warranty has expired. This is a comprehensive warranty with no deductible, and it is redeemable at any Porsche dealership in Canada and the United States. Only genuine Porsche parts are used in the repair process, and all work is done by factory-trained technicians. Visual and acoustic concerns, and wear and tear, are not considered defects and are excluded from the warranty. Extended warranty coverage is available for an extra cost. All warranties are fully transferable to a subsequent owner.

Advice when choosing your CPO Porsche

Get the best deal you can

Although CPO vehicles do offer more guarantees in terms of quality and condition, you should still seek to get the best selling price when negotiating for the purchase. For example, a larger down payment might help lower monthly payments if you’re buying on finance.

You should also get the dealer to to go through a finance example versus a lease example with you.

You could also use the spec of the car to help negotiate a deal. For example if you wanted a car with foglights, a sunroof, a roof rack or a specific style of alloy wheels but the dealer couldn’t supply a car to that precise spec, it’s potentially a lever for negotiation—especially if it’s approaching the end of the month and the dealer has targets to hit...

Double-check the car is right for you

It’s wise to take the car for a test drive if at all possible – because although the assurances you’ll get from buying a car that’s approved by a CPO program mean the vehicle should be dependable, you still need to know if it suits you. For example, does it have desirable on-board tech such as Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility or premium audio? Does it have power seats or memory seats? How easy is it to use the navigation system, the cruise control or the steering wheel controls?

You should also to check you are happy with how well other gadgets. work, such as the rearview camera or reverse sensing system, or rear air conditioning, if the car has it.

How good is the Porsche CPO program?

The main advantage of Porsche's CPO offer is that it acceps cars that are up to 13 years old – and its two-year warranty means you could be covered for a car that's up to 15 years old. This is a far greater scope than many other manufacturers offer.
