I smelled rubber burning and the air conditioner light blinks do you know the cause

Not sure of the cause but I would flush out the entire A/C system to see if the problem is solved.

I agree the compressor belt *may* have slipped, or the clutch locked up. The blinking light is part of the diagnostics the A/C system has. Do you still have cold air coming out the vents?
