Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I just bought a 95 xlt. The 4wd wont engage. There's not even power to the switch. A mechanic found a screwdriver in the axel! It's like they were trying to ground something, any ideas on what might be the problem?

screwdriver in axle, sounds like that is how the previous owner tryed to get it into 4x4.if it did not damage anything, bad acuatior,4x4 switch,or motor on back of transfer case.also check for cracked or broken vac lines on transfer case.located on top of it is 2 lines.
