I have an issue with my 1997 Bonneville.

The other day, I came home and was unable to remove the key. I cannot put it
all the way into the lock position or even use the accessory. It is in park and I
can start it. I do think it is mostly a security issue since anyone could climb into
the car, start it up and drive away. I have read a lot about removing a small plug
on the column but I have not found such a plug on my car. Any suggestions?

I had the same problem and messed with it for a month. Finally found there was a piece of formed rubber over the trigger button on the gear shift that was causing the top of the gear shift from pushing downward completely. I removed it and pushed down on the stick and the key could be removed. I am not real good and explaining things so I hope this can be understood.
