96 ford explorer battery lighton volt guage high then lights blink and drops to
normal and batt light goes off for a few seconds then it does it again. Whats
wrong?

Normally it would indicate an alternator going out. However, there could be a loose connection. Check the connections on the back of the alternator with the engine off. Be careful, you have voltage from the battery at that point. If your connections are good and clean check the output of the alternator at the battery, with the car running. Should have 14.3 or so volts. Also make sure your battery connections are good and clean. Check the main ground coming off the battery. Could be connected to the engine or frame of the vehicle.
