does it have spark? is it coil or distributor? could be as simple as need new cap and rotor, or might be icm. start by checking for spark at the coil/ distributor, then check plugs.

is fuel getting to the cylinder? pull a spark plug, crank the engine and smell for gas. if no, check icm .

Process of elimination. Get a spark tester and check each wire at the plug connection. If that is OK forget about testing the coil. Obtain a loaner tool from parts store and check pump at fitting on rail. Check pressure with pump on and running, and off. There should be no pressure drop, on only a slight drop over a five minute span of time.

Inertia switch, look up under passenger side kick panel it's a plastic snap together switch with two wires unplug it take a short wire strip both ends and bend in a U shape stick it into each hole of plug then start it up! My Explorer did this and I eventually just cut the switch off and wire the wire that went to each side of the switch together then put on wire nuts and then black tape. Permanent Solution
