Help on what to do with my Honda hybrid

I bought my 2003 Honda hybrid civic in April 2017 and I
didn’t realize right away that the battery light was on
because the check engine light didnt turn on until after I
took the car home after paying for it. After 3,000 miles
right before I was going to do the oil change the car shut
down. So I jump started it and it turned on so I took it to a
mechanic and it turned off right in front of the auto shop.
The mechanic later said I had to take it to a hybrid
specialist because he didn’t know. So I jump started it to
take it back home. I bought a new regular battery
(YouTube video recommended it) and it didn’t seem to
solve anything. Should I sell it? I don’t have the money to
buy a new battery.

you got screwed like every other 2003 honda hybrid owner did,i lost all respect for a car company that deliberatly gave their faithful customers the screwing of a lifetime purcheseding these bunk and defunk models.my family bought two honda hybrid civics identical cars, one in nevada and one in virginia both cars are P.O.S.,THERE I FEEL A LIL BETTER.HONDA SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF WHAT THEY PRODUCED AND UN LOADED TO THE COSUMER.

Could it be your alternator? Because your car, if the alternator isn't functioning properly, will attempt to run solely on battery power.
