2009 Toyota Camry hybrid.

Asked by camryhybrid2009 Feb 10, 2019 at 11:27 AM about the 2009 Toyota Camry Hybrid FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a howling sound when the car is put in reverse and continues to some
degree until the car is put in drive and moves forward, then it's totally gone.  As
far as i can tell it's not your normal brake 'squeal' and doesn't seem to be
effected by pumping the brakes, etc.  Any ideas?

Reverse gears are flat and can make a howling noise if going fast enough. Is it while you're moving or stationary in reverse?

It's while moving and the volume will change if you pressure the brakes off and on but never completely stops until it's put in drive.
