the fans only starts with the a/c on or if i disconnect the coolant temperature sending unit when i reconnect the sensor the fans stop working

i have tested both engine cooling fans hi and low speeds work. all three relays check good. when i disconnect the coolant temperature sending unit the fans turn on and i did replace the sending unit.

sounds like its backwardd or something..or grounding...the sending unit is for your water temp. gauge. youre looking for the fan switch(es). my car has 2 mounted in the bottom of radiator and has a primary and secondary fan...its also an 88, but all that basically applies to most cooling systems

How do I know where to put the relays if someone took them out the 3 radiator fan relays 2 have the same # but one is a different number
