2001 Xterra just stopped running while driving on freeway

Asked by clsmith7 Aug 29, 2014 at 01:59 PM about the 2001 Nissan Xterra XE V6 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I purchased my son a 2001 Xterra for his graduation.  I had a transmission put in it; the
body was immaculate.  The vehicle would not go in reverse.  While the vehicle was still
being tested for new trans, while driving one day it just stopped.  I had it towed in and was
told the motor is gone, but the jeep had been driving fine until then.  What do you suggest.
I questioned if they were truthful; I found wires hanging under my dashboard.

Going by this and your other question...you were taken for a ride..the seller more than likely knew this car had serious problems. What I don't understand is what you mean by still being tested..if you were driving it. Was it from a dealer?

How many miles were on this vehicle when the motor took a shit? I'm looking into buying a Nissan Xterra 2001 with 281,000 miles on it . Obviously I know it will need a new motor and transmission work shortly but my boyfriend is a mechanic so I don't mind paying a small bit of cash for the body then buying the parts to fix it if I can talk this guy down from what he's asking which is just shy of $2000... ?? Thank you for your time to read and answer.
