transmission shifts gears hard

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Car quit driving, only would go in reverse
bought a transmission from a guy that said it worked perfectly fine
take car to shop for the transmission to be put in
they replace a sensor there also, then tell us that it will not shif out of 1st gear
the car drives but shfts very hard to go into gears

should i try to fix this or sell this car and get a new one ? what is this ?

my friends taurus from the same year did the same thing. shifted very hard. enough to spin the tires between shifts. he kept driving it for thousands of miles that way. but id get it fixed at a transmission specialists shop if i was you
