1) air in the cooling system, usually accompanied by poor heat, run it with the radiator cap off and the heater on untill the heat blows hot, then fill the coolant and put the cap back on and test drive...basically the thermostat won't open unless it's immersed in hot coolant, which it won't be right after installation 2) themostat installed upsidedown/backwards 3) cooling fan only works on low speed, overheats more while city driving 4) something blocking air flow to the radiator, over heats more highway driving or all the time 5) siezed water pump or proken water pump fins, requires visual inspection

Most Nissan 1.8 have two thermostats. 1 -thermostat behind water pump end of bottom radiator hose. 2 -thermostat in water housing cluster at top of engine, end of top radiator hose. Always! Change Both! Both thermostat’s face same direction, See Nissan diagram (parts.com...etc.) Top , spring towards engine Bottom, spring towards pump
