1997 Ranger XLT 123000 miles starts then stalls...

Truck ran fins went out made a few stops and shut it down for about 1/2 hour .Went to
start it and it started and ran for a sort time and stalled..Then started back up and engine
light came on..

Will it stay running if you feather the gas pedal? If so probably dirty/faulty idle air control valve or dirty throttle plate.
