Deceleration

Asked by acbailey88 Oct 02, 2018 at 01:49 AM about the 1972 Chevrolet C/K 10 Cheyenne 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

After driving my truck for 30 minutes
at 60 mph I tried slowing down but it
wouldn't. I tried breaking and could
smell the brakes. I put the truck in
neutral and braking, still nothing.
Finally I pushed the parking brake,
had the truck in neutral and pressed
the brake all the way. I went into the
ditch until I could get the ignition
turned off and the truck in park. The
tires where dug into the dirt of the
ditch about 6 inches. Any advice o
what went wrong?

Total brake system failure. I would do a complete brake system rebuild. New calipers, rotors, drums, master cylinder, brake lines etc.
