1993 Mercury Cougar has this electrical number lock above the driver door handle. When the battery died after sitting so long, the number lock wasn't working. I only have the ignition key so I can't get inside the car. I layed under the car front and reached up, pulled at the end of the hood release wire and the hood popped up. The hood was higher by 3 inches. I pulled at the hood latch and hood went up all the way. The hood latch to the left undid the "hook" lock. Thanks for your answer to my question.
