WHAT WOULD CAUSE WHITE PUFF OF SMOKE TO COME FROM OUT OF THE HOOD OF A 05 MERCURY COUGAR?

COUGAR WAS RUNNING 60 WITH CRUISE
CONTROL SET. WHITE PUFF OF SMOKE
CAME FROM UNDER HOOD, CAR STARTED
TO KNOCK SHUT IT OFF IMMEDIATELY. CAR
WILL START AND RUN FINE WITHOUT
KNOCKING,BUT NOTICED GASKETS
SHOWING AROUND BOTH MANIFOLD
COVERS

What color was exhaust? If white....then u blew a head gasket. You may have antifreeze mixing with gasoline....providing the white exhaust

HAVE THE COOLING SYSTEM PRESSURE TESTED FIRST..THEN WE CAN GO FROM THERE....

Sounds like oil leaking onto the exhaust manifolds. Sounds like the valve cover gaskets need to be replaced. Also check your engine oil level since it has ben leaking, keep the oil level up to where it is suppose to be.
