Engine cuts ut after 2500 rpm, any suggestions?

Asked by Bob94Caliente Jun 19, 2011 at 11:19 AM about the 1994 Mercury Cougar XR7 Coupe RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

New Wires, Plugs, Coil Packs did nothing to help and yet the problem remains.  Has been suggested that one of the cats may be plugged as it also pings under light acceleration.  The dealer has NO CLUE!

Sorry...The engine is the 4.6 V8 with only 60.931 miles, original pwners

it sounds like either a timing or fuel mixture problem to me. o2 sensor, cat, computer, vacuum lines all could be culprits. i'm not all that familiar with post carb engines, though.
