Tire Road noise?

Asked by GuruHNXN1 Jul 25, 2019 at 12:05 PM about the 2019 Kia Optima S FWD

Question type: General

Owned 2 Kia Optimas and never had and y type of road noise. I have a 2019
Kia Optima S Model. Dealer changed out Kumho tires for Hancook tires. Still
getting road noise. Some roads loud rumbling like driving over pebbles.
Some roads a little less rumbling. Going to have a mechanic ride with me
next week.
Don't know what to do at this point. Maybe the S Model has different
suspension? Salesman says NO! These tires are not really expensive tires.
The Hankooks are rated a little better than the Kumho's.
Any ideas on where to look or check.
Please help.

All cars have some road noise. The road surface is one of the biggest factors.

The road noise is so loud that I can turn the radio on and still hear the road noise! Shouldn't all cars have some kind of sound insulation?

Yes, most cars have some insulation. Luxury cars have more, economy cars like Kia's have less.

Try test driving another Kia Optima on the dealership lot to see if it sounds the same.

My Optima has a double sunroof which is made of glass. Glass does not block out the road noise at 70 mph you have to speak very loud in order to hold a conversation with others in the car.
