What do I need to fix to get my brake light to shut off when the car is off? And why are they staying on?

Try pulling up on your brake pedal. Then inspect brake pedal switch. If all looks good and lights still on then un plug brake pedal switch. If lights then go out replace the switch.

Its under the dash along the arm that the brake pedal is on.
