I just installed a Chevy 350 into my 64 Chevy Impala but i cant get it to start. The engine turns but all thats happening is its backfiring and not coming close to starting. Im really at my wits end and would like some help to get it started. Any and all help is appreciated.

What kind of distributor do u have ....hei Make sure it has fire hook a hot from the distributor. One side is hot one side is cold ... Hookem up and it will work

U don't need static time ..pull up top dead center #1 piston. Check distributor. Make sure its pointing to 1 on distributor. . hook up plug wires .... And make sure your grounds are clean and tight ... And it will fire up ..

The first thing I would do is switch all the wires across the distributer from one another. A lot of times the distributor is 1/2 turn out of time. My dad and brothers used to rebuild an engine and set the distributer in 1/2 out.
