brake hoses

At 159,000 miles I am being told that the brake hoses need replacement although there are no signs of leaks. I was told that it is a common problem for hoses to leak. Should I leave them aloneuntil there is a leak or replace them now?

Save your money...it is a dual-braking system...when it begins to spray brake fluid...you begin to replace them...it's only economical....if you're a safe driver and can stop right away....if you are a reckless driver would recommending getting them done right away~
Get a second opinion. If you live where they salt the roads in winter or you've hit something damaging the hoses, there should never be an issue. I'm not even sure that salt will damage the hoses. Come to think of it, my 560,000 mile car's brake hoses are fine.

Depends on how badly the hoses are deteriorated. Initially the outer rubber cracks, then it starts fraying. If they're at the fraying point, I would rEplace them immediately. When the hose gives out, you lose about 90% of your braking ability. The cooler climate you live in the faster the hoses deteriorate. So unless you can predict when you will need an emergency stop, I would recommend replacing the hoses before they leak. I've had hoses break in the past and thankfully I made it home alive.
