Front air deflectors on 2018 stingray

Asked by arnieg638 Aug 13, 2017 at 04:44 PM about the 2018 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray 3LT Coupe RWD

Question type: General

My new car scrapes driveway curb downpipe while leaving in either direction
and already one side has been replaced. All three deflectors show signs of
scraping so is there a problem if I remove them (warranty?) or anything else.

I would leave the air deflectors alone. Perhaps see your dealership and have them raise the ride height 1/2 inch.

Having driven Corvettes for over 50 years, there is a skill involved. First remember the Corvette rides low. The body is close to the ground so driving down a street, SLOW DOWN for dips and if possible attack them at an angle. Entering driveways and raised entries, always slow down and approach at a 45 degree angle. that way one tire will hit first and raise the front of the Corvette saving the underside. Speed bumps suck. My Corvette scraps in the middle after one set of tires are over it and the other is approaching. SLOW and if you can, use the side of the speed bump where maybe one tire will not hit it, and the bump is lower for the middle of the car to stay clear of the bump. Two: The front of the car is longer that most cars. So approaching parking lots, park back from the curb and parking dividers. They were invented by auto body repair people that get rich replacing the undercharge of cars like Corvettes. Three: The air deflectors are there for a reason. It helps control the car at highway speeds+. It also helps cool the car, and removes dead squirrels from the roadway. After over 50 years, I still make some contact with man made obstacles, but by slowing down, damage is not a true factor. Get such-up paint, or if it is black fiberglass or plastic, use some blacking products designed to replace or enhance the black parts of the car that over time turn gray.
