Just bought a 2002 Kia Sportage. Seems to be geared really low. Anyone know what gear ratio options i have to change the ring or even better an aftermarket overdrive kit or 6 speed tranny?

Don't mess with it. It's engendered that way to get get.maximum power and fuel economy.

So back to my question.....is there any options of ring gears or aftermarket 6spds available?

WOW! That's just no where being right! I wonder if the diesel transmission would be geared differently. 3500 rpm @ 65 MPH is nuts!

Hummmmm. I doubt it. And then would it be compatible? Maybe switching the differential is the way to go.

You have stock wheels and tires? If somebody put those ridiculous low- profile tires on it that are 2 inches tall there is the problem right there

Yea its tires are smaller but its not enough make a difference. It just feels like i need to grab another gear. If i changer the ring gear then i'll loose power but if i could find a 6 spd or an overdrive kit it'd b fine. I bought it for the mpg's but its not any better than my 94 YJ with 35's.

The tires will be easier and cost far less than a transmission or differential switch.

for the same issue i did modification is differential. swapped ring and pinon gear with mazda, bolt fitting, nothing else was changed. problem was fixed to alot extent. i was not using 4 wheel drive so this modification went well till tires change. after new bigger tires, acceleration response was reduced so moved back to original pinion and gear. but that is really disappointing with sportage
