My 1999 ford ranger xlt automatic 4.0 what drive forward when moved out of P, R, N it only drives forward in D if I throw it to D1 and than back to D??? Help me please what can It be???

I changed all 6 spark plugs and oil
and my truck wit still jerk every now
and than so I drained tranny fluid and
changed tranny filter n same day had
this problem with my gears does it
have anything to with the fact I just
drained out my tranny fluid n filter? ??

Sounds like the transmission might be bad. The fluid you drained out, was it brown/black and smelled burnt?
