Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 1989 Ford Ranger 4X4 will not move if I put it in Overdrive. I can manually shift through all the gears including overdrive, but if I have to stop and start back off in overdrive, it will not move unless I put it back in drive. I have changed the fluid, filter and modules.

This one may require a Transmission expert with a set of pressure gauges to diagnose.

Did you find out what was going on with? Cause we are having the same problem and have done the same steps as you?

No, I am still having the same problem. I have also changed the governor housing and made sure that the pin was still in the modulator.

The Governor regulates the shift points based on vehicle speed. Go to a Transmission shop and have it checked out - or just throw $1800 at it and get a Remanufactured one.
