1999 ford ranger auto trans will not go into low but can manually shift from second to drive but if it shifts down it will not go into low motor will just be like its in neutral

check fluid level and see if fluid is burnt smelling , change it if it's burnt , if you still have a problem take it to a tranny shop it might be time for a rebuild
