Brake Peddle Goes To The Floor

Asked by dahkberg Mar 14, 2017 at 04:35 PM about the 1999 Jeep Cherokee Sport 4-Door 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hello, I have this problem where occasionally my brake peddle will go to
the floor. It only does it at low speed, low RPM, like pulling into a parking
spot. And it is random. I thought it might have been the master cylinder, so
I replaced it with a new one and bleed the brakes. Problem still there.
Thought maybe a issue with the rear drums... Replaced the rear drums
with a disk brake kit and bleed the brakes. Exact same symptom still
present. Replaced the front calipers, pads, rotors and bleed the brakes.
Still the exact same symptom. I am now at a loss. It is all new and I still
have this random, low speed, low RPM peddle drop. Any ideas to what it
can be? Thanks, David

The only thing I can think of is if air had gotten into the ABS control module. You could bleed it all day and not get a brake peddle. You may want to take it to a brake shop to have checked out. You need a computer program to bleed out the ABS control module.

The only other thing would be if the master cylinder is not bled out good enough. When bench bleeding you need to push that piston all the way in before pinching of the bleeder lines before releasing that piston each time.
