Fuel filter location on a 1999 Jeep Cherokee Ltd xj 4ltr Auto

Asked by Sam Feb 17, 2019 at 09:43 PM about the 1999 Jeep Cherokee Limited 4-Door 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have looked all over the underside of this wagon an I
haven't  seen a filter anywhere. I have taken off the metal
tank cover. I was surprised to find an all plastic fuel tank.
At the top of the tank is a threaded locking rim. (Like on an
AG Jar.)     Is that where my filter is ??   Is the fuel gauge in
there an is it ok to undo locking ring and pull out but
carefully...

That's your fuel sending unit that consists of your filter, pump, and fuel gauge float. If you remove, make sure you drain and clean your tank. Once it's back together, make sure your fuel pressure is good before you crank the engine.
