1999 jeep cherokee xj

have a 1999 Jeep Cherokee XJ and while I am driving it, it runs fine, but when I slow down to a stop it acts like it is going to cut off. When I go to move after the a stop, the RPM will drop real low and then jump back up to a smooth level. What might be the problem here?
