99 explorer turns over but wont start

Asked by jimbob229 Apr 29, 2018 at 12:44 PM about the 1999 Ford Explorer 4 Dr XLT SUV

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

door ajar light stayed on with puddle lamps lit. pulled fuses one by one until found right one. When alarm was activated, I noted it only honked once instead of the usual three times. I left the fuse out overnight. in the morning, it would turn over but would not start. I reset the alarm using valet button - no help. I have had the battery disconnected for half-hour and going to try it again. Any suggestions? Anyone?

My daughters 99 explorer had a similar problem, except key was totally dead. Try entering the vehicle and closing the door. Turn the key to the on position, then cycle the lock/unlock button a couple of times ending up on lock. It works for her.
