Question type: Maintenance & Repair

2002 Jeep Liberty limited, check engine light
came on last week, took it to auto zone to
have them read the code. They said it’s the
catalytic converter. Couple days later light
turns off, than back on the next day. I was
told to try a catalytic cleaner, so did that last
night and filled up my tank. Light was on this
morning, but this evening it’s off. I’m a single
mom and have NO clue about cars. Am I
SOL? I can’t afford a new car, and I can’t
afford to get it replaced if the estimates I’m
seeing online are correct.... HELP!

It’s most likely the catalytic based on the code. Other candidates can be a failing oxygen sensor or a small hole or leak in the exhaust before the catalytic. The cheapest route is to buy the parts online and have shop that only works on exhaust install them.
