1997 ford exployer speedometer stopped working but rpm gauge is fine

Totally different systems/feeds. You will need to have to speedometer diagnosed and repaired. Could be the gauge, the electrical feed to the gauge, the signal generator board, the speed sensor feed, etc. You will probably need to have a shop diagnose and repair unless you feel up to doing it yourself.
