I think it's my fuel pump but I'm not sure?

I have a 99 explorer and recently
it's been stuttering when I try giving it gas.
And a slight knock every once and awhile

When is the last time you changed the fuel filter? My daughter's 2003 experienced the same problem a few months ago. She had never changed the fuel filter, I changed it and all was ok. For info purposes, when I removed the old filter and turned it over to drain the gas, the fuel that came out was black.

I have a 2003 Ford Explorer 4.0. I'm not getting power to my fuel system. I've replaced the pump, filter, and inertia switch. The old inertia switch connector was melted at the switch. No fuel to eng. 6 Answers

No fuel to engine. When truck is in the on position, the fuel pump runs for a second then shuts off. Need help asap. Out of ideas. Don't really know my way around a car.
