kia sedona transmission

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Does a 2017 Kia Sedona need and if so when should transmission fluid be changed? Looking at the manual it states nothing about transmission having a maintenance schedule. I have looked online and it states something to the effect that it is "maintenance free". Sites that sell maintenance state 30K or 50K miles is when transmission fluid should be changed. I want to ensure that I'm maintaining it if it needs it, but don't want have it changed just cause vavoline/firestone/etc.. recommended it if it is not actually recommended by Kia.

If the fluid is nice and pink with no burnt smell I wouldn't worry , A complete flush is not good so I've heard . You probably don't have a tranny dip stick so good luck

According to KIA, automatic transmission fluid doesn't need to be checked or serviced under normal usage conditions, unless of course, you experience unusual performance. However, under severe usage conditions, it needs to be replaced about every 60,000 miles..... The greater problem here for the owner is that owners manuals describe severe conditions as how most people drive. Do you drive in hot weather, cold weather, dusty or polluted conditions, or sit long in traffic. So to be safe, you should check fluid at 60,000 miles. If it looks anything other than near new, have it changed, and if so equipped, change the filter, as well..... Flushing any automatic is a bad idea. New transmissions don't need it. Older transmissions that haven't been properly serviced have built up debris that comes dislodged and ends up clogging important parts of the transmission so they begin to work improperly.
