Driver side door lock

Asked by Jasper Aug 20, 2020 at 02:28 PM about the 2017 Dodge Grand Caravan GT FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

When locking the door I can hear it try to lock but the little knob doesn't go
down and doesn't lock. It does activate the alarm though so if you open the
door the horn honks repeatedly. I can press the knob down and it locks but
then have to crawl through the passenger side to unlock it. Opening the door
from the inside will unlock it. What part would I need to order? Is it easy
enough for a car dunce to be able to figure out?
Thank you in advance.

If it is just the driver door that is not locking and unlocking then it sounds like the actuator in the door is faulty, they are fairly cheap to replace and just requires you to take the door panel off to get to it. Just be careful not to break your plastic clips.

I received a letter two weeks ago (1/2022) that said the warranty was extended to 150,000 for the door actuators. I scheduled a service call with the dealer. They ordered the parts and within two weeks both my doors open, shut and lock and without any noise. I was at 148,000 miles so I just barely made it.
