Driver side sliding door

Asked by GuruLX9SX Apr 01, 2019 at 06:50 PM about the 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan Crew FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have been trying to find a way to fix this door for months it locked shut .and know the dealer
ship will take me to the cleaner in the cost to fix it. I think they should fix it for free because now
it's a death trap . The actuator is already starting to go on the passenger side and they told me
that it's going to cost me $800 to fix so I'm thinking great but what if it's not the actuator on the
driver side so I wasted $800 on that what if it's a locking mechanism how much is that going to
cost me like if I get t-boned on the passenger side then my kids will not be able to get out of the
van they say in the commercials this is the most reliable van it's not now it's a f****** most
deadliest freaking deathtrap anybody could have for a vehicle I can't keep affording to fix this it's
a 2016 like this door got stuck shut at 80,000 kilometers in a told me it wasn't covered under the
warranty I'm telling you everybody trying to talk to you do not buy a Dodge Grand Caravan or the
Town & Country

You can try this. Worked for me on 2016 Grand Caravan “CREW”. Door became stuck in locked position. Wouldnt unlock either with remote or overhead panel. Hold the lock.unlock button on the rear inside door handle in the unlock (forward) position. Push as hard as you can then press the side door button on remote. May have to do this 2-3 times. PRESS HARD AS YOU CAN - IT WONT BREAK. No guarantee but it did work for me. My door now works like a charm

Before this solution (which worked but must do this everytime) Also you can only roll window down from driver side door and not passenger side door at all. It has to be something to do with the contacts. Any ideas?

Sorry. I never had a window problem. The door issue emanates from a faulty door actuator switch. (290.00 CAD from Mopar but is available from Amazon at less than half of that). I looking at the YouTube videos on how to replace this switch I note that you must disconnect the window regulator as part of the process. It’s not impossible to think that this may have jammed at some point. Either that or the window motor has failed. Sorry I couldn’t be of more help.

Hi Foxie. I'm thinking the switch is connected somehow to actuator because the window will open and close using the switches from drivers door. The search continues. Gotta love googling. Thanks.

GREAT NEWS!!!! This happened to my Dodge Grand Caravan and I filed a complaint & today I opened my mail & they are repairing this!!!! The letter is from FCA US LLC. Call 800- 423-6343 or 800-247-9753. They are extending the warranty on this issue to 15 years/150,000 miles. If you paid for this, they are reimbursing as well!!! I am so excited!!!!

I received a letter two weeks ago (1/2022) that said the warranty was extended to 150,000 for the door actuators. I scheduled a service call with the dealer. They ordered the parts and within two weeks both my doors open, shut and lock and without any noise. I was at 148,000 miles so I just barely made it.

My 2015 has less than 155,000 miles and it just happened to seize yesterday. No warning sounds, Should I call the number and pray they will fix mine too?
