Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hello, greetings from Finland, I have done a full rear brake rebuild on my
1989 chevy C1500 4x4.  all emergancy brake cables,brake cables,rear brake
shoes etc have been renewed. brakes work great, but the emergancy brake
light flashes 3 short flashes and one long flash. .What gives? One factor to
consider is that this was a official import ,bought from a GM dealer in 1989 In
Finland 1989 there was no unleaded gas available. All the anti pollution stuff
was ripped out so it could run on leaded gas.The air pump, carbon box etc
were left in place.Runs great,we use 98 oct gas.help about the flashing
lights, My yearly DOT inspectio is in two weaks.Cheers from the land of the
midnight sun. Kalle Haukka,Rautalampi Finland

That sounds like an early ABS code but it is not on the list as a viable code. Could be a wiring issue. If your working on this yourself you will need a good shop manual with wiring diagrams.

It's usually best to run things the way they were designed , tearing out all the smog equip. presents such problems you may want to hook it all up . I would think leaded gas would have been fine . 89 was around the time they were going from carburetor to TBI and things weren't perfected , I think . The vacuum lines are a bag of snakes right ?
