Asked by 88cheyenne May 03, 2017 at 06:47 PM about the 1988 Chevrolet C/K 2500 Cheyenne LB 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Driving down the road truck acts like it doesnt get gas and
shuts off. Sometimes it will putter first then shut off other
times it wont.  When it putters you can easily press the
gas and it'll go away but if you press it to hard its worse

Probably a fuel pressure issue, or a vacuum leak. Fuel pressure should be 9 to 13 lbs. and I have seen the TBI base gaskets go, so check the base gasket also.

I had this same exact problem with my 1988 Silverado. If you have yet found the culprit, look near the top of the engine. There's a wire type connection that goes bad. Replace that. Sorry for not giving you specifics or pictures, but an old garage mechanic (the best kind) knew what was wrong, charged me $45.00 for his trouble and the truck has run like a champ ever since.
