Asked by Rizman Aug 10, 2011 at 07:47 PM about the 2005 INFINITI G35 x Sedan AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Lately im hearing louder than normal sound from the engine when driving on highway at +80km/hr. Not sure what it is maybe the belts? changed air filter but no change. Its like the engine is working harder but the rev. counter needle appears to point at normal 2.5 at about 100/km hr. I drive a 2005 G35X has 103,000km. Can someone tell me what it might be?  thanks

It may be you have a floated valve from over reaving the engine (especially if it is a manual transmission) also you may have a valve spring bad or your intake or exhaust manifold has a leak near the engine. Another place to look for problems is knock sensors or a throttle sensor. One more suggestion is it could be your timing is off. if you have added any performance parts check the timing. hope this helps

Thanks for the info. Its automatic tranny so I'll just have to take it to the dealer and have them check it out.

My 2006 g35x just started doing what you described. Performance is the same but it gets loud when accelerating up hill or at higher speeds. Did you get a diangosis?

Per dealer, Front Hub & bearings assembly, new tires and balancing, also recommends Rotors and brakes
