2000 Chevy Tahoe Z71 engine swap help

Asked by Sneakypants14 Mar 21, 2018 at 11:36 AM about the 2000 Chevrolet Tahoe Z71 4WD

Question type: Car Customization

I am currently looking to purchase a 2000 Chevy Tahoe Z71 and ive found one that im looking at, but the engine is blown and needs to be replaced. I was wondering if there is a similar newer engine on the market today that would offer similar power and performance of the older engine, but with more fuel efficency as I will be using this as an everyday vehicle including lots of camping and logging trail driving. Also is it possible to add a more powerful engine on the Tahoe or do you think the stock transmission and drive shaft would break?

Any engine newer than 2001 will be drive-by-wire, versus cable-driven throttle body, which would mean adapting or modifying the wire harness and throttle controls as well as PCM. Figure on swapping all that out as well.

My best advice the contact Jasper's engines and transmissions https://www.jasperengines.com They should offer a rebuilt that engine with a 100,000 mile 3 year warranty. They're great company, yes,a little bit higher price than the rest but well worth the extra dollars is to have a transferable Nationwide warranty. Nice idea to consider a newer engine but then you're going to have computer issues as well recommend not installing anything that requires a retrofit. Good luck!

Jasper is great I've heard but sure enough expensive, look for crate engine or lkq
