ITS A KNOCK SENSOR ACTIVATION, ITS DETECTING AN ENGINE KNOCK IT THEN GOES INTO A SAFE MODE WHERE IT WONT REV UP PAST 1800 RPMS OR GO MORE THAN 60 MPH MAKE SURE THERE'S OIL IN THE ENGINE

Have oil change conducted after the engine light came on and changed Knock sensor, came sensor and crank sensor , still have the same issues as above person. took it to Firestone for an analysis. I was told to take to dealer for this code due to have a dealer campaign for this code P1326, stating may be an harness or engine problem.

On August 13th 2019 this happen to me I took my 2018 Hyundai Sonata sport to the local peacock Hyundai of Savannah they replace the wiring harness today is September 11th 2019 and my car has done it again $30,000 for a car that is continuously leaving me on the side of the road I have complained about the knock sense day one it took them 4 months to get my Blue Link to work when I purchase the car. I must admit Hyundai has totally disgusted me with their 2018 models. This is not my first Hyundai Sonata I had a 2000 model a 2001 a 2016 and now a 2018 the 2018 is the worst car of the year. If you take it to the dealership don't tell you that they can only do what Hyundai motor's of America will allow them to do if you contact Hyundai motor's of America they gave you a ticket number and tell you to get it to the dealership in the meanwhile you're stuck without a vehicle until they run Diagnostics. How convenient is this for a customer? Hyundai needs to fix my car or give me another one I'm sick and tired of this...

After getting 6 check engine lights with DCT P1326, over the last 5 months, the local dealer applied a newly released software update. Hyundai updated the knock sensor software for some VIN numbers by dialing back the sensitivity. BTW, I got the check engine lights every time I ran my car through the car wash. Since the update I'm two for two with car washes and NO check engine lights.

1/29/2020 - P1326 code on 2015 Santa Fe Sport with 66,000 miles on it. We have owned it 3 months. Check engine light flashing. Won't accelerate over 60mph and hesitates when you push on the gas quickly. After a LONG DRAWN out process, I took it to a Hyundai dealership in New Braunfels, Texas and told the Service Manager that there are numerous post on line about this problem. They are now filing a warranty claim and they are going to try replacing the harness first and go through some other items to consider due to recalls. If that does not work, the engine will be replaced. AT THE EXPENSE OF HYUNDAI. I am not the original owner of the vehicle, but apparently there is still a warranty on the engine which nobody told me about the day prior. Don't give up the fight!!!!! - go to a Hyundai dealership and find out what is covered. Before I found out there is an actual warranty (that I did not purchase) - a repair shop had quoted me $8k for a new engine and over $2,500 in labor to install. In my case, a reasonably prudent person would not expect to buy a vehicle that is 5 years old with 66,000 miles on it and the engine go out.

My 2014 Sante fe sport has 111,000 plus miles, and the engine light just started flashing and hesitation driving. First thing I noticed was day before at light i moved the window buttons and engine revved like stalling. Then fine until today. Code read p1326 aid unfixable, crossed referenced at part store and they said fuel sensor or bad gas.. Had the oil changed and they cleaned the fuel pistons and all but same issue

Happened to me twice driving on i-95... feb 5 and march 4 first they changed the wiring harness and it was okay for a month and it happened again cant ho faster than 40mph... this is tiring since i got this car last yr june.. @41k miles on it... 2nd time they said they updated 2 softwares but thats it. i wrote to corporate and still waiting for their call back. This is rediculous since I drive on a freeway everyday to work.... I regret getting this car. I’m scared to drive it now cos i feel like its gonna break down anytime.

My 2018 sonata has exactly 90,000 kms on it, I live in canada so its spring, and very large holes in the road. There was a row of potholes, that I hit and they were bad... I never hit any holes and then this happened, the next day, so yesterday the first time starting the car again I noticed a bad shake when it started, went about my day, each time it started the whole car shook bad. Finally was through with my errans and came to the red light and the car started shaking super bad, and the rpms were jumping, my engine light started flashing and the car stalled. So with corona virus happening, I had to get my car towed 1 hour down the road back to my house! I just had an oil change, and I have the code p1326, so hoping it is not anything bad. I think i will see about trading it in for a 7 passenger though, i dont need problems

Update; corporate couldn't do anything and told me they need to duplicate this code. if it doesnt appear again they cant help me.. i was mad cos my cars rpm is fluctuating weirdly, and im scared to drive my own car... I told them if I die in that car they will have bigger problems. They assigned me to another agent but I do not want to negotiate anymore since they cannot do anything for me.. Thinking to just trade this junk car. only in 54k miles its already headache...

Yes mine has about 55,000 miles and this is the first problem I have had, I loved the car before this happened. It is getting towed tomorrow morning to a dealership 2 hours away, and the dealer is providing me with a rental vehicle

They gonna run a check here the process... wiring harness and let you go. drive it few 1000-2000 miles it will happen again... they updates software let me go again. next what? knock sensor?? and I wont wait for the 3rd time anymore. I fought with the agent regarding the code: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2020/MC-10172224-0001.pdf.. and he said that service bulettin is not even open to public i said yes its online. I was fighting for them to replace my entire engine. but he keep dodging it and said, gotta run another test. I said no more testing cos the next time this happens i might die. Not sure about lemon law but since of corona virus can't do anything. they just give me the run around and their mechanics keep saying your car is fine. I drive it everyday and I feel there's something wrong with it. It's not running like usual....

10 people found this helpful.
1,160

by the way.. they extend the warranty to 10 years and 120,000 miles thats for the engine. cos why? cos their cars are defective, its unfair to consumers, we spend thousands for their junk product thinking we got a good deal. But no. I used to love my car too. But driving on a freeway running 70kph and happened to me twice. it's no joke.

@ryan, can i ask you about your oil change.. where did you do it? I know oil change has nothing to do with it but last thing i remember before my 1st incident in february 2020, i had my oil change in NTB (not in hyundai delearship since a a farther drive). and after a week i had this code... I'm not sure if its just a coincidence or something to do with the software update that we missed.

850

I always get my oil changes done at Hyundai, although I just switched dealerships because I moved, and the service has not been as good. And I had the software update already at the old dealership about 3 months ago. Now I'm arguing with the dealership because they said they just need to do it again.

The car is now ready to be picked up, they said they found nothing wrong with it and it was just a software update, which is funny because the engine light was flashing and the car was shaking like crazy this morning... hmmm

1,160

same with mine! they said exactly the same things with my 2017 sonata. There's nothing wrong with it just 2 software updates. meanwhile my rpm is still jumping after that! lmao... I just got contacted by corporate.. since my car being a 2nd owner, it doesn't fall under MD lemon law. Offering me arbitration service dispute. so no engine replacement they wont do it. I gonna have to get another opinion from another dealership. And NO not going to another Hyundai service center, I already went to two different locations and can't seem to fix it!

So how long before you had another problem? I will let everyone know if this update did fix the car or not. I out on a lot of miles so I will find out before long!

Feb 5 was my first, 2nd time march 4. I drive 38 miles one way. so total about 80miles per day. highway drive for 45mins. when i got it. back 6th of March i felt unsafe. it's still shaky and rpm is acting weird. so I went to a different dealership. left it there loaned me a car. gave it back to me telling me there's nothing wrong with it. code is gone. I'm no mechanic i know no shit about cars. But i feel there's something wrong with it. i drive it everyday. But i feel like they just ignore my issues.

My car just died yesterday. P1326 error code. Happened three days ago, i was on highway probably doing more than 60 mph and car just started cruising, engine light came on, key was disabled and I could not accelerate. Had to stop on Tobin Bridge, blocked the whole line. Once i turned the car off and tried again car started up. No check engine. Yesterday i was driving and as i hit 60 mph got flashing engine light, minute later car started making knocking sound and lost the power so i barely managed to reach shell gas station. Car got towed away to my mechanic and then to Hyundai dealership. waiting for them to run diagnostics.

@Guru5x85l there was a recall on the 14's through 18's. It's just a software update, and they did it to mine and now the engine is running so smooth, I didnt know a car could run this smooth. So far so good! I hope the best for you too

@Val ues that's exactly what it feels like, and I was stopped at a bad intersection and had to get out in traffic quick, so I stepped on it and the car did quite a sputter before there was any power. I definatly slowed traffic down which I wouldnt of otherwise done. So its gonna be a problem

I've been having the same issue with my 2018 2.4L Santa Fe Sport since Campaign 80CA08 (R0153, knock sensor update) Recall in June 2019. Last time it happened on a highway when I was overtaking a truck and it nearly resulted in a crash. **** that. Yesterday my dealership told me that Hyundai released new ECU software update that supposedly should fix this issue once and for all. I'll let you know i f it did.

So I went on a trip to town this morning for an oil change actually at the hyundai dealership, I put 2000 kms on since last time, and I just turned in the dealership yard and the engine light came on and started flashing. I told them and I said it worked good the whole way there. In 10 minutes they said the wire harness needs replaced. So they did that and it seems good now. So a 2 weeks ago they did the software update when it was broke down, now the new wire harness. I actually told them I will look at trading it in, so i looked at a 2019 Santa fe xl.. anyone have issues with them?

I have a 2015 Sonata and only have about 36K miles on it and we were coming home tonight and the check engine light came on and when we checked the code it was the P1326. I hope that we can get into the dealer tomorrow and get this fixed. We have owned this car for about a year now and it seems just about everything is under recall or some sort of defect. Makes me sad that I purchased this vehicle. This is my first and last Hyundai.

I hear a lot of negative here. I have a 15 Sonata Sport that just gave me this code. However, I’m limp moding my way to 300k miles. I’ve cleared it couple times and being easy on quick accelerations. Car with that many miles still humming 75-89mph

Got my first check engine light last week - Santa Fe 2014 @ 198,000 kms - and as everyone else limited to 1800-2000 rpm. Took it to my regular mechanic first. He read the code and notice knocking at 2600 rpm and it was the lower knock sensor on the engine. Went to the dealership close by next day and they told me about the 5 step process. Step 1 - wire harness, Step 2 - second software update, step 3 engine check, step 4 ?, step 5 engine replacement. They cleared my code at step 2 - but to me, this is wrong. My car got the software update in May 2019 to limit RPM because of knock. It went off in May 2020. Fine for a year. Wires suddenly bad? Just need to adjust software? No, the knock sensors are detecting what they are supposed to be detecting, but as someone else mentioned, they are reducing the sensitivity via software. As you keep driving, the physical knock becomes worse and the system picks it up again. I think they are keeping the car going until you are past your warranty, so then they can say, engine is dead - spend more money. Proper troubleshooting would put the car through the engine test FIRST (their step 3) to see if there really is engine knock that is serious. Only after the engine test has found no vibrations should they look at the electronics. My guess, the ECU updates are reducing sensitivity AND flattening out/dampening initial acceleration (almost like the ECO mode) to try to extend the life of the engine. I intend to drive till its dead, and if I spend any appreciable amount of money - it will be on a new car that is NOT a Hyundai product. I can no longer trust their engines.

So I put 3000 kms on since my last service, where they replaced the wire harness and did an oil change, because if the hassle they didnt charge me anything which is good. Now every time I start the car "2018 sonata" the engine knocks you can hear it everytime, and it seems like the shifting is off, or slow to shift.. My engine light came on today and it is solid, not flashing this time! So I called to let the dealer know and they told me that if the light isnt flashing I can still drive it. I think I'm just going to drive the piss out of it until the engine goes, I bought extra warranty so im not close to being up

I have a 2013 Santa fe Sport AWD that went into limp mode. It displayed code P1326. I changed the knock sensor. It wasn't easy to get to, but I did by removing a few parts in the front by the fan. The code didn't go away so I took it to the dealership and recieved a call from the dealership telling me the knock sensor was installed correctly and for the $191.00 diagnostic charge they reinstalled it correctly and reset the code. Riding for 3 days now and all good.

It's been 3 almost 4 days since my car broke down, the dealership has been very rude, the second day I call to ask if they found anything the matter with my car yet, they said no we havnt looked at it, were just waiting for you to bring the keys to us, I said the keys are in the car, and i dont have a vehicle now. So they finally found the keys and said they will let me know what is wrong. They got back to me the next day, says the engine needs to be replaced and that I will be responsible for the bill. I said what? I have warranty until 170,000 kms and the car only has 98,000 kms, and she said no there is no proof you did your oil changes at hyundai, and i said i go to hyundai everytime for my oil changes, and I've never been anywhere else. They told me they are not going to start working on my car until august 1st, and it is june 3rd today! And no rental car? So I'm going to tow the car on my dime to the dealer I bought the car from, they will give me a rental they said and the engine will be at no charge, the car wont be worked on until end of july up there.

So a follow up. Two weeks after my initial post, the same thing happened again. It went back to the same dealership at around 199,000 kms. They took it in, and about two hours later, they called me back and said it needs a new engine, but it was covered under the 200,000 km warranty recall extension done in Canada. They asked me for the service record (it was a Friday), and I provided them with the full record the following Monday. About a week later, Hyundai corporate did the final approval, and the engine was ordered. They did a short block order - which is the engine block, pistons, rods, crankshaft. The other items are coming from the original engine. The short block should be arriving tomorrow, and I'm expecting the truck some point next week. Looking at Youtube, I've seen videos of Hyundai short block replacements, so it looks like it can take anywhere between 6 to 8 hrs - basically a dedicated person a full day. We'll see how this works out, but to the credit of the dealership Im dealing with currently (not the one where I bought my car from), they've been responsive and courteous. The orginial dealership was helpful in printing out the entire service records, as well as no issue in getting reprints from the other shops where I did the oil changes more recently. My oil changes were done anywhere from 6,000 to 8,000 kilometres intervals (where the manual says 6 months or 12,000 kms whichever comes first). It may explain why my engine "failed late". Even with the frequent oil changes, you never will get all of the factory debris out from the deburring - once the metal shavings get into the piston rod bearings at the crankshaft, its only a matter of time. We'll see. These problematic Theta II engines are being replaced by the Theta III in the new Sonata 2020 - the thing is, whenever there is a major revision, old problems may be fixed, but new ones come up. Maybe this engine replacement is a blessing in disguise, a Theta II without the debris problem, and I can keep it long enough to see how the Theta III's perform when it does come time to get a new vehicle. If the truck performs well after this, AND if the Theta IIIs have no major issues, I'm willing to give Hyundai another chance in the purchase of a new vehicle - in my case, in the very least, they have been living up to the extended warranty. I will report back - time will tell.

Update: they ran a test and they said it failed (whatever that test was, I’m a woman with no car knowledge). They gonna change my car’s engine. They’re only willing to pay $30 for a rental car and i have to pay for like $12. Just to get over it I agreed to it knowing I’ll get a new engine.... they said it will take 4 days to two weeks so im not sure how long it takes to get it done, im just thankful they finally gonna do something about it. We’ll see if this engine will do better. Will update later.

@Val, they say they are going to pit a new engine in mine. It's the third time it has broke down in a month. Today is day 5 without a car. They told me I can have a rental for 5 days, so i asked how long will it take to replace the engine, they said august 17th it should be ready, so that is 2 and a half months away, and i was told to pick the best 5 days for a rental. So, i have to get to work everyday and get groceries, how in the hell am I supposed to pick the best 5 days?! LOL and I change my oil everytime I need to at the dealership, and they are questioning my warranty I paid $3000 for. I am not to impressed with the dealership. The last hyundai I had, they gave me a rental car every time the car got repaired no question, it was a different dealer because I moved cities, but this is just unreal. Anyways I hope the new motor will last!

2 people found this helpful.
850

Oh! And I was in contact with the dealer I purchased my car at, they clarified the motor will be under warranty or a recall and I will have a rental car at no charge. But the dealer my car got towed to, they say nope there is no recall for your car and we dont have to provide a rental. I have already been in contact with Hyundai Canada about the situation, and they dont have much to say. They were supposed to call me back today and I have not heard from them. What a shit show, think I might go try a honda crv

Why do you have to pay $3000??? Our car is under warranty up to 120k miles?? Thats what my dealership told me and it was implemented last yr. i was actually mad for paying $12 a day but what they did to you is just wrong. I asked if i can reimburse the $12 per day to corporate he said yes i can after they changed my engine. This is their fault and not ours. If you can pls call corporate tomorrow that seems very odd. And august!??? Where tf are they getting the engine?? From mars???? Im pissed off the whole day. Now im even more mad lmfao!!!

Update: it has been 8 days and my car is still in the shop. Also, they were gonna give me a rental car but enterprise didnt let me since im a new driver and i only got provisional licence. so they end up just loaning me a car without paying for anything which is good news. They said max 2 weeks for process (new engine). Will update again if I will get my car back by next week!

@Guru7HHVH it was kinda loud. And it won’t accelerate smoothly like my car used to. I even searched up stuff about it but people said hyundai engine makes loud engine sound so I thought it was normal lol. Have you went yo hyundai service center yet?

A crazy advice.... drive your hyundai car on a freeway like a race car til you got the 3rd code. Lmao. Cos only on the 3rd time they will decide to change your engine. And I know how it feels to drive a car with this issue. Its very unsafe.

3rd Update. The engine replacement is now complete for my Santa Fe. It turned out they did a long block, not a short block replacement. I also had the dealership do other things not related to the engine replacement (fix air conditioning leak, transmission service, and other items) to get everything up to snuff which delayed the return of the vehicle one more day. The service agent who I was dealing with had me speak with the mechanic who did the work, let me look at the old engine, and provided some suggestions and answered some other questions I had. The service agent had also taken the vehicle overnight to test the new engine on both city and highway driving (which I was able to confirm reading the odometer) and had said the SUV had run smoothly and without trouble. I've had the SUV for about three days now - and I can confirm, the SUV has been running smoothly. We will see how it performs over time, but so far, I have to say, the dealership that handled my case, did so very well. It was also comforting to note that the mechanic that did my engine replacement was a more senior person, and the service agent who handled my case told me he goes this mechanic to service his own vehicles. The other thing to note, on the engine block, I noticed a date stamp - August 20, 2019 - I believe that is the date of assembly of the engine. Its good to see a lot of new shiny metal under the hood. I will report back next spring - let the car through a summer, fall, a Canadian winter to report on the engine replacement has been holding up. But overall...so far, I'm satisfied with the repair.

Yes our sonata had a knock, it has been in the shop for 2 weeks, they told me it should be ready between monday and wednesday. I've had a rental for 3 days but have to take it back in 2 days. I hate the rental, it's a hyundai elantra gt amd it rides awful. I like my sonata way better!

Update: I got my car yesterday. So far so good! car running smoothly. Drove it otw home and otw to work today. On the papers they gave me it says they replaced it with "Remanufactured Engine Sub - Hyundai (21101-2GK34-QQH)". Engine change included the anti-freeze change i believe and filter in it. Apart from that I asked them to do break fluid exchange and other things that my car needed. I was pleased with the service and hopefully this time the engine will last. I wish everyone here will get the same process i had. Will update whatever comes in the future.

i had my 2015 sonata 2.4l gasoline engine go into safety mode where i could only go 60mph and the check engine light was on. very worrisome indeed BUT... i have a code reader that i had purchased from autozone for $60 and it has a code erase feature. i highly reccommend seeing a dealer with the check engine light on but to get out of the safety mode , i simply erased the codes and presto chango , the sonata ran good and came out of safety mode. it hasnt retrigger safety yet and im hoping it was just that simple but if check light comes on again im towing it to dealer thanks to the info i found here about the safety recall campaign

My 2015 Santa Fe Sport backfired about 2 months ago. Since then, no check engine lights come on but my car sputters, hesitates, shakes when I accelerate from stopped position and during driving. Hyundai dealer put it on the computer.....no problem they say. I have taken it to the garage 3 times......no problem they say. It’s not the “knock sensor software” according to Hyundai. So what is it???????

Hey guys. I just got a letter yesterday "NOTICE OF PROPOSED CLASS ACTION SETTLEMENT" not sure if you all got it. Sending you a copy here https://jnr-static-file- bucket.s3-us-west-2.amazonaws.com/hmaenginesettlement/Theta_Settlement_Notice.pdf. "If you bought or leased a 2011–2019 model year Hyundai Sonata, 2013–2019 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport, or a 2014–2015 or 2018–2019 Hyundai Tucson equipped with a 2.0L or 2.4L Gasoline Direct Injection engine you may benefit from a class action settlement." I think this is a good news. And we're all getting a LIFETIME WARRANTY. Let me know what you guys think!

I have a 2012 Sonata 2.0T with 128,000 miles on it. At 64,000 the engine blew up. Hyundai replaced the engine at no cost to me. Fast forward to Aug 2020 with 64,000 on the new motor I got the blinking check engine light and not able to go over 40 and P1326 Code. Took it in to local dealer and they performed a Bering inspection. If this test fail Hyundai MUST replace the engine. In my case it did not fail Thus a ECM update was performed and code was reset. Engine runs fine for now will update if needed.

P1326 code appears on my Santa Fe Sport 2014 yesterday morning. No more power, rpm no more then 2000. On that car the engine was already changed cause of noise at the end of 2018 with 92k mileage. Now the car has 149k ( 92k old engine + 57k new one) and this kind of issue appears. Now the cas is on the dealer shop for investigations...

Well, this spun me for a loop. Engine light on, in limp mode (no shuddering or knocking sounds, just limping). Husband hooked up code reader and it was for a knock sensor issue. Since these consumer code readers can't dig into the deeper, specific issues, husband took 2018 Santa Fe Sport to the local dealer and while he waited they ran their system on the vehicle and it turned out to be the sensor in the intake manifold reading that a mechanical piece of a valve was broken. It's plastic, so can't be repaired so the entire intake manifold needs to be replaced, fortunately ours is still under (yes, extended) warranty and won't cost us anything. It's still "drivable", although the replacement part won't be here until some time in a week. So the only cost for us for now is only being able to drive the thing in limp mode if it triggers the sensor off again (they reset the light for us) until it goes into the shop when the part arrives. Still, it's going to be a pain seeing that engine light on whenever I drive it...I hate that light so much I always have a panic reaction to it, esp given it's one of the many Hyundai's affected by that whole THETA issue BS. Hopefully it won't sense it again but it likely will. If remember I will update this post after my Santa Fe gets fixed and it's been driven for a while.

Update to my previous post - the intake manifold has been replaced. The engine light is OUT and no longer going into limp mode

mines heading to the dealer. was heading home and went from 75mph down to 60 in a heart beat. Ran the scanner and got the P1326 code so I took the day off work and replaced the sensor.. was only like 6 bolts and a bunch of clips. still had the same error. taking mine in cause it has a knock in it that sounds like a playing card on bicycle spokes. Hopefully they can figure something out cause I was on hold with their parts department for over an hour on a simple part beforehand. ( I worked in parts for almost 10 years, no excuse for that crap)
