engine wont start after stall at stop light

while driving home I stopped suddenly when light changed and engine stopped running , tried  restart the car and dash lights dimmed engine wouldn't turn over , car was fine before that , never had problems starting before battery fully charged , I tried moving the gears from park to neutral and no joy.. just coming home from grocery store run , , car has over 260,000 miles on it have owned it for seven months never had any problems with starting or running,checked oil levels etc all OK engine would not turn over ?

It sounds as if the battery has gone low, recharge then check the charging system.
