Grinding noise when turning. Also loud whining sound when car started (2007 cadillac SRX)

Asked by barsng Dec 25, 2015 at 05:41 PM about the 2007 Cadillac SRX V6 AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2007 Cadillac SRX makes a grinding noise when the steering wheel is turned to the left. No noise if turned to the right.

Also, when I start the car in the morning (or if not driven for over 5 hours), there is a loud whining sound for approx. 30 seconds, then it stops.

My power steering fluid is full, and the belt seems ok, possibly a little loose but not much.

Any idea what the problem is?

The loud noise whining sound could be the air pump Check the plastic shroud around your tire, it might be rubbing against your tire, and check around the air pump too, to see if the sound is related,

the whining sound could be the power steering pump, or the pulley attached to it. or it could be another pulley bearing associated with the serpentine belt.
