Why is my 02 Hyundai sonata dying!!! Please help

Car will not stay running but will sometimes
start and run fine other times it starts and
will stay running if I hold the gas down but
will rev up and down and while its revving it
smells of nail polish remover

Could be the catalytic converter, It can clog up and start to run hotter, Contributing to the smell and bad idle.
