Hyundai Accent 'check engine' light... suspecting foul play from mechanic

Hello, I have a 2003 accent and recently had it serviced at my local auto repair center. Immediately after I got it back from the shop I noticed that the engine fan takes about 30 seconds to stop after I have stopped the engine. This didn't use to happen.

Now, two weeks after I took it to the shop, the check engine light came on. Any ideas?  I feel like the mechanic is playing tricks on me since I don't know much about cars... He now wants $120 to diagnose, which may or may not be his fault to begin with, but I'm really starting to distrust the guy. Thoughts?

What did you have him fix the first time around, and that might lead you back to the problem. Also, ask around and find a real mechanic (they generally diagnose for free). Beyond that, you can take the car to Auto Zone and ask them to run a Check Engine diagnostic on your car. They have code readers that they also can use for free to tell you what the problem is.
